“Community-engaged learning (CEL) offers rich and meaningful opportunities for students to engage in applied research and participatory forms of knowledge production and co-learning. For me as university instructor, it is quite rewarding to witness how impactful learning can be when it aligns with (and responds to) the research needs of community partners. Creating space for critical and sustained reflection is an essential aspect of CEL and allows me to engage students in rich conversations about power and knowledge, opportunities and challenges of participatory practices, and the ethics of community engagement and community-based research.”
