Street Health
“Street Health has a long rich history with the University of Toronto’s community partnerships. For well over a decade, we have received students through a community placement with the Pharmacology and Toxicology program. Students have assisted us with a variety of projects ranging from program evaluations and needs assessments, to developing resources and tools. Last year, a group of students collaborated with community members to develop tip sheets for service providers. The tip sheets offer healthcare providers vital information on how to effectively serve individuals who are homelessness, using substances, or coping with a variety of other challenges. This practical experience gives students with the opportunity to build connections with people who live with complex health and social issues. The experience also encourages students to critically reflect and explore systemic and personal biases. The integration of theory and practical knowledge provides future nurses, doctors, pharmacists, and teachers, with real life experience which can enhance the competency of their care. This outcome is an enormous benefit to the community Street Health serves, and far beyond.”
